Influenster XOVoxBox Review

I recently received my first VoxBox from Infuenster, which happened to be the XOVoxBox. I was so excited to test out these products and let you guys know what I thought of them! You can sign up for an Influenster account and start receiving free products too! It’s very easy (just ask how).

Here are my thoughts on each of the products:

Product #1 John Frieda Frizz Ease Collection:

I received a small sample of the shampoo, conditioner, and primer from the collection to try out. I very excited to try these out! The shampoo and conditioner made my hair extra soft and less frizzy than normal. The primer also helped with the frizz control. I was very pleased with the outcome of these products. I already use another type of frizz cream on my hair, but I may start alternating between the two.

Product #2 Colgate Optic White Toothbrush, Whitening Pen, and Express White Toothpaste:

These products came in just in time, because I was in desperate need of a new toothbrush. I love how the toothbrush has a place where you can put the whitening pen inside of it. It makes it very convenient and easy to store. I think these products did a good job of whitening my teeth. My only complaint is that it took me awhile to get used to the gel in the whitening pen. Once you get used to it, you’ll be glad you used it!

Product #3 Skinfix Hand Repair Cream:

I thought that this product was very handy (no pun intended). It is small enough so I can carry it around in my smaller purses. I was very pleased that the lotion left my hands very soft. It is great for fixing my dry, cracked hands from the cold weather!

Product #4 Tide Pods + Febreze:

I absolutely love these things! I’m a huge fan of the pods, because it makes it a lot easier to do laundry while I’m at college. They are very easy to carry with me when I go to do laundry. They are great for someone who is learning to do laundry on their own for the first time. I used a different version of the pods when I first got to college, and I have used them ever since. These were a nice addition to my laundry supplies!

Product #5 Adore Me:

I was so excited when I found out I could choose something free from Adore Me! I think they have a lot of cute bra and panty sets! I was very happy with the products I received, but I wish they had more choices for my size. I also received a coupon code that I can share with you all so you can get your first set for $25! Here’s my code:   Enjoy! 🙂

Overall, I was very pleased with all of my products from Influenster! I can’t wait to see what I receive in the future. Let me know if you have any questions about Infuenster, Adore Me, or any of the products!

***I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

Who Am I?

IMG_6823I just recently started this blog, so I decided to sign up for the Blogging 101 course to get to know a little bit more about blogging. The first assignment is to introduce myself and tell why I am here. Since I haven’t done an introduction post yet, here’s my chance:

Hello! My name is Zoie. I am 18-years-old, and currently a freshman in college. I started this blog because I wanted to write about my college experiences, and share what I learn with other college students. What better way to do both of those than to start a blog? With this blog, I hope to give others advice, and show them that they are not alone with the struggle of college. I think blogging is a great way to get to know other people from around the world who share the same interests as you.

So that is why I’m here, now a little bit more about me:

I am currently working towards a journalism degree. I love reading and writing about celebrities and entertainment. I haven’t quite decided where I want to be in the future, but I have dreams of moving to New York and working for MTV. It may seem outside of reach, but I’m going to work hard to get there (or somewhere else just as cool).

IMG_1408I also really enjoy photography (which goes along perfectly with a journalism major). I have taken pictures for fun, pictures at concerts and events, and portraits. I love the idea of capturing memories that you can look back on at a later time.

I have a boyfriend named Kohl, who I’ve been dating for over 3 years! ❤ He’s helped shaped me into the person I am today, and I don’t know where I’d be without him. 🙂 We met and bonded over music, so I have him to thank for introducing me to some of my favorite bands.

I think this post will give you a better idea of who I am, and why I’m here. If you want to know more, feel free to leave a comment! 🙂

Goals for a Successful Semester of College

IMG_7527 The start of a new year is the perfect time to work towards some of those goals you have been putting off forever. Many people have New Year’s resolutions or goals that they set to work towards during this new year. Personally, I prefer goals over New Year’s resolutions any day. In this post, I will share with you some of the goals that I am going to be working on during my spring semester of college. These goals are things that any student can work towards to help improve their grades or their college lives in general.

Goal #1: Improve study habits.

This goal may seem obvious, but it is extremely important to help improve your grades. I learned the importance of studying during my first semester of college when I got some of my quiz grades back and wasn’t impressed with my results (You can read my post about other things I learned during my first semester of college here). Instead of spending hours at a time studying, I am going to study for shorter intervals and take breaks in between. This studying strategy has been proven to be more efficient!

Goal #2: Read more.

During this semester, I plan on reading all of my reading assignments. There were nights when I stayed up really late and would tell myself that I would just finish the reading assignment in the morning before class. This was a huge mistake, because I would sometimes forget to do the reading. It was just my luck that every time this happened, we had a quiz over the assigned reading. Big mistake. I don’t plan on just reading my college textbooks though. I also plan on reading other books too. I love reading for fun, but since I’ve started college, I haven’t really had the time to read any books. I am going to try to change this, and make more time for reading books that I’m interested in.

Goal #3: Eat healthier.

I have gotten into the habit of going to the dining hall and loading up on cheesy fries whenever there is nothing else appetizing on the menu. My goal for this semester is to make healthier eating choices. There are a lot of fruit and vegetable options in my dining hall that I need to learn to take advantage of. I think it is important for any college student to work on this goal, because there are many students who do not pay attention to the unhealthy foods they are eating, and this is the reason why so many students gain the freshman 15.

Goal #4: Develop better organizational habits.

I can’t even count the number of times I have tried to do my homework and have encountered a messy desk. Every time this happens, I get discouraged to do the work. I am going to work harder at organizing my desk and keeping all of my assignments organized as well. Keeping your assignments organized will make it easier for you to keep track of them so that you don’t forget to do one.

Goal #5: Exercise more.

There are a lot of students at my college who are athletes, but I am not one of them. I am going to make the extra effort to exercise more this semester. I think exercising is an important part of staying healthy and it is something that I am definitely lacking. Something as simple as going for a walk around campus will be better than being a couch potato.

Each of these goals are simple and realistic, and that I why I prefer goals over New Year’s resolutions. Any college student can work towards these goals to help better their college experience.

What goals are you working towards this year, or this semester of college?

First Semester of College in a Nutshell

The first semester of college can be very exciting! It’s a time where you start making new friends, learn to live on your own, and make the adjustment from high school classes to college classes. It is a great learning opportunity for everyone. During my first semester of college, I learned some things I will never forget.

1. Your stress level will go off the charts.

If you think high school was stressful, wait until you get to college. The homework assignments and studying will become never ending. Just when you think you have all of your assignments done for the day, you realize that you have an upcoming test to study for. There will be times when you don’t have the time to study for a test, and it will make you even more stressed. While you’re worried about homework and studying, you also have to remember to go to events, meetings, and take trips to the store when you’ve run out of your favorite snacks. The stress can be overwhelming at times, but all freshmen are facing the same problems.

2. You’ll say you won’t procrastinate, but you will.

Before I started my classes, I told myself I wouldn’t procrastinate. Well, that didn’t go as planned. When you’re on your own in college, it’s very easy to procrastinate. You no longer have a parent constantly reminding you to do your homework. With all of the events for new freshmen, it’s hard to turn them down to go work on a research paper. You’ll also be excited to hang out with all of your new friends, and you’ll forget about your assignments until the night before they’re due (sometimes the morning of). It’s all about time management.

3. It’s okay if you don’t make a ton of friends.

When I first came to college, I thought it was all about making new friends. It is important to meet new people and have friends to hang out with, but having too many can become a distraction. It’s okay to go out to eat with your friends every once in a while, or have a movie night, as long as you allow yourself some time for homework and studying. After all, you are attending college to get an education.

4. You’re bound to forget something.

After pinning list after list of what to bring to college, I thought I was prepared with anything I could possibly need. After a few days of staying in my dorm room, I realized I had forgotten a can opener. It’s so easy to forget little things. It’s bound to happen to everyone, so just be prepared to take a couple trips to the store to get the things you forgot to pack.

5. A planner will become your best friend.

You should always, always, write your assignments down in a planner. Having a planner will help you become more organized, and help you remember when your assignments are due. I started carrying mine with me everywhere and writing down every assignment, meeting, or special event I had. I don’t know what I would do without my planner at this point.

6. Joining a sorority/fraternity isn’t for everyone.

When I first started college, I went in with an open mind about joining a sorority. I had heard both positive and negative things about sororities. I decided to wait until I learned more about the sororities on campus before I made my decision. I learned that a sorority can be expensive and time consuming. On the other hand, I learned that it could be a good way to help a charity and make new connections. When it came down to it, I didn’t have the time or money to join a sorority with all of my other commitments. Some people love being in a sorority or fraternity, but it isn’t for everyone. So don’t feel out of place if joining a sorority or fraternity isn’t for you.

That sums up my first semester in a nutshell. What did you learn during your first semester of college?
